Welcome to Summer Reading and a Summer Full of Fun!

We hope you will enjoy the programming we have planned for you this summer, and that you will Read, Renew, Repeat so we can help a Przewalski's horse and a Wombat if we read 1500 hours all together.  read squared app image ReadSquared provides suggestions for books to read, reading lists, bingo,  games, and this year access to more stories for your entertainment. (If you prefer not to log your minutes online we will log them for you if you leave them for us here in the library.)

 

 

Wednesday, July 31

Japanese Folktales and Origami Workshop with Motoko     2:00

Join award-winning storyteller Motoko for an afternoon of Japanese folktales followed by an origami workshop. Motoko begins with delightful folktales from her native Japan, and then provides step-by-step instructions make the ancient Japanese art fun and accessible. Children will learn focus, imagination, and precision while creating pieces of art. This program is geared towards children entering kindergarten and up. Registration is required and begins on July 10th. This program is supported by grant funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services as administered by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.

 

 

 


 


 

 

Thursday, August 1

Rainforest Reptiles     11:15

rainforest reptilesEducators from Rainforest Reptiles return to the library on August 1st! A real-life Herpetologist will be at the library to talk about the life and habitat of four tropical or semi-tropical rainforest reptiles. Everyone will get a chance to see a tortoise, tegu lizard, a boa constrictor or python, and an alligator! This program is for kids entering kindergarten and up. Registration is required and begins on July 17th. We require walk-in registration for the first three days and will begin taking sign-ups over the phone or email on Monday, July 22nd. This program is funded by the Friends of the Library.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Monday, August 5

Little Bee Yoga     1:30

little bee yogaChildren ages 3-5 and their adults are invited to a kid-friendly yoga class! Christine Walker from the Little Bee Yoga Company will be at the library to run a 45-minutes yoga class geared towards our littlest library users. This class will incorporate cardio conditioning, fun music, stories, and teach children the benefits of traditional yoga: meditation, breathing techniques, peace and relaxation. Services provided by a certified and insured Children’s Yoga instructor. All participants will need to bring a yoga mat/towel and to wear comfy clothes! Registration is required and begins on July 29th.. This program is funded by the Friends of the Library.

Tales from African Traditions with Valerie Tutson     11:15

african story tellerDrawing from her own travels, internationally known storyteller Valerie Tutson brings to life an assortment of myths, folktales and historical accounts from the African continent and the African Diaspora. Tailoring the material to the grade level of her audience, she shows students the beauty, humor and wisdom of tales which help to illuminate parts of the diverse and ancient cultures of Africa. Registration opens up on July 10th. This program is supported by grant funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services as administered by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.

A Special Music Story Time with Julie Stepanek     11:15

muciacl story timeJulie Stepanek returns to the library on August 8th! Families are invited to join Julie for a music storytime! Come listen, sing, and move to songs that are familiar and a few that are new. This program is geared towards children ages 0-5. Registration is required and begins on July 17th. We require walk-in registration for the first three days and will begin taking sign-ups over the phone and email on Monday, July 22nd. This program is funded by the Anderson Foundation.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Wednesday, August 14

Comic Juggler Bryson Lang     2:00

juggler bryson langBryson Lang returns to the library to conclude our summer reading program with his comedy-juggling show! Prepare to laugh and be amazed at the variety of materials that Bryson successfully juggles. His "Cure for the Common Show" is sure to get everyone laughing! This program is for kids entering kindergarten and up. Registration is required and begins on July 25th. We require registration for the first three days and will begin taking sign-ups over the phone and email on Tuesday, July 30th. This program is made possible by the J.L. Bumpus Fund. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Thursday, August 22

Family Lego Club     6:30

It doesn't matter if you are 8 or 80.  There is something magical and freeing about snapping those Lego bricks together to create something new, so cast your work and worries aside for an hour and join us for some building time. We will also have some larger Duplo blocks available for our younger friends who might not be Lego-ready yet.  Families and family-like groups of ALL ages are welcome to attend.  Challenge a neighbor!  Bring a friend!  Declare a Lego War!    

(This is not just for children but all children must be accompanied by an adult.)
